Dear
Friends,
I had a different V&V planned for this Autumn Equinox; but here we are.
Balance is not passive; ask any dancer or athlete. Striking a balance is
energy in action; it requires a strong center, a strong core.
The scales of justice balance the needs of the individual against the needs of
society; they balance the interests of one individual and those of another. Our
symbol of justice balancing the scales dates back to the
Egyptian Goddess Ma'at, who stood for truth,
fairness, righteousness, ethics and morality. In ancient Egyptian belief,
the law stood above all humans, with Ma'at representing
the cosmic order that balanced the universe.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg died on the first evening of Rosh Hashanah — the
Jewish New Year. In Jewish tradition, one who dies on Rosh Hashanah is
considered a tzaddik, "a person of great
righteousness".
May we work with her passion to restore fairness and equality in this country.
May each of us actively work to restore the balance we need in our nation.
Walking the
long walk
grandmothers walked before us;
justice roars back.
